Having just returned from a second visit to the wonderful Izaak Walton Inn, I can only say that my husband and I are eagerly looking forward to a third trip. The Inn itself is full of railroad memorabilia, much of it from the Great Northern R.R. The rooms are very comfortable with goose down comforters on the beds, tucked into a lovely quilted duvet. No TV or phones in the rooms, which suited us just fine. The restaurant prepares reasonable, tasty meals and the entire hotel staff treats guests like family. Best of all, though, is the proximity of the mainline BNSF tracks to the Inn. They are literally in the front yard. Across the tracks, reached by a pedestrian bridge, (a big plus for railfans) are 4 cabooses that are also available to rent. This rustic old Inn makes for a memorable getaway.

SPENT 2 NITES THERE IN EARLY JUNE 2002...LOTS OF TRAINS..I KEPT MY WINDOWS OPEN ALL NIGHT AND DAY. GREAT LOCATION,LOTS OF HIKNG TRAILS. LIKED THE NO PHONE/TV IDEA. STAFF WAS GREAT...THE CHEF WAS THE WAITER ADDING A PERSONAL TOUCH TO MY DINNER ORDER,WILL GET THERE THIS YEAR AGAIN.

We had an awesome time at the Izaak Walton Inn. The staff was very friendly and helpful - we needed a babysitter and 10 minutes later we had one. Food was good and resonable and the rooms were priced quite resonably and were the rooms were very nice. Reminded us of a wonderful bed and breakfast except it was an Inn. We can't wait to go back. It was great to be 40 minutes for each side of the park near the river rafting.

This is an update to the review I wrote in October, 2002.``The Izaak Walton Inn has only gotten better with age. Having just spent 3 days there two weeks ago, it was like going home again. Our room was cozy and comfortable, the staff treated us like family, the restaurant had the same wonderful chef that has been there over 10 years, and there was train activity right in front of the Inn on an almost constant basis. A rail fan couldn't ask for more! As an added attraction, hummingbirds darted over our heads all day long. The 3 feeders that were hung around the porch were drained dry by the end of the day. Between watching trains and hummingbirds while sitting on the porch swings, the minutes and hours went by quickly. TV's and telephones were not missed at all. Since the Empire Builder makes a stop near the Inn, getting there by train is very convenient. The folks from the Inn meet the train with their van and also take you back there to catch the train home. We heartily recommend the Izaak Walton Inn as a memorable getaway for anyone, but especially for rail fans.
